From the Very Beginning.
Education is the way forward for the children of Northern Uganda. Since Unified for UNIFAT formed in 2007, sponsorship has been our biggest and most popular program. This unique program links students, schools, and families in the U.S. with children at UNIFAT School who are in desperate need of an education. Only the most destitute children that apply for help receive a scholarship. The selection is based on data gathered from the Unified for UNIFAT mentors as well as an evaluation and recommendation from Abitimo, founder and proprietor of UNIFAT School.
Personal Connection.
The uniqueness of the personal friendship that is formed through the sponsorship program is what sets it apart from other initiatives. Unified for UNIFAT connects the sponsor and sponsored, the students and YOU. Letters, pictures, and Skype phone calls are all ways you and your UNIFAT child connect.
So Little gives So Much
Education goes so much further than books and classrooms. Sponsoring a child invests in their future, providing them with not only an education but also with a mentor who cares for their well being. Acting as a surrogate parent, their mentor guides them in academics, character, and social well being. Sponsoring a child benefits them and others on so many levels; the Ripple Effect. By paying just $300/year for your child’s education, you are helping to pay the salaries of the teachers, mentors, and administrators of the school. They in turn can take that money and feed their families, send their children to school, or invest in their future. By investing in education, you are investing in UNIFAT, Gulu, and Uganda.
What is Next?
With Unified for UNIFAT gaining new chapters every year, our power to change lives beyond primary school is being realized. Launched in 2009, Unified for UNIFAT started a secondary school scholarship program to provide opportunities to the top performing P7 sponsored students. This gives them a chance to attend secondary school (high school) in Gulu District and includes their tuition and related fees for them to live and eat at school. Read more here.
