Communication is power
Since the inception of the Mentorship Program in early 2009, Unified for UNIFAT has been receiving massive amounts of information daily about the children in the Education Initiative. Unified for UNIFAT’s ability to communicate with UNIFAT School is crucial to the success of our initiatives and programs. With the ability to receive up to date information on the progress of these programs and initiatives, our organization can make smarter future investments, assess the effectiveness of current programs, and consider possible improvements.
Closing the gap
By funding technologies at UNIFAT, such as the internet, laptops, and computer training, Unified for UNIFAT can guarantee a personal and close relationship between sponsored students and their sponsors. This means weekly Skype phone calls and weekly reports about the children’s health and academics. The link formed between Unified for UNIFAT and UNIFAT Primary School is made possible through the use of technology which ensures increased efficiency, planning, and communication.
Sustainability
Unified for UNIFAT is passionate about putting ourselves out of business. We firmly believe in the people of Gulu, Uganda, and in their ability to support themselves long term. Working in conjunction with UNIFAT School, Unified for UNIFAT has developed several long term plans to accomplish the goal of independence from foreign aid. The first idea proposed is an internet cafe to be built at UNIFAT. Funding is needed to fill this building with laptop computers, pay for monthly internet costs, and hire professional local computer training. An internet cafe would give UNIFAT School a constant stream of income which they could use to take over the financial responsibilities currently provided by Unified for UNIFAT.
Electric Reliability
Gulu frequently experiences power outages that can last for days. As UNIFAT becomes more and more dependent on electronic devices that require power, a plan needs to be developed in order to have power accessible anytime it is needed, regardless of whether there is a power outage. UNIFAT is requesting funds for a generator to be purchased that could provide reliable electricity for the school in the event of a power outage.
